Holocaust Survivor Jay Sommer, born in Germany and raised in Czechoslovakia, was (at age 12) incarcerated in a Nazi labor camp for the duration of World War II. He emigrated to the US in 1948 and, in 1981, was honored as the nation’s Teacher of the Year.
